City Mission Veterans Facility Project LS 16-02
On May 4, 2017, the Washington County Board of Commissioners presented a check in the amount of $266,000 to the City Mission for their Veterans Residential Facility Project as part of the Washington County Local Share Account Program.
This project involves the construction of a new 10,000 sf, three story facility that will serve as a temporary residence for veterans. The upper two floor levels will contain 15 private sleeping rooms and two 4-person dorm rooms. The lower level will accommodate a clinic to serve the veterans and other clients involved in the programs of the City Mission.
Ram Acoustical Corporation from Beaver Falls has been awarded the project for a total cost of $341,600, of which $266,000 is coming from LSA funds. The LSA portion of the construction project includes framing, insulation, and joint sealants. The balance is being provided by the City Mission.
This new structure will provide veterans with decent transitional housing as they attempt to work out of their difficult life circumstances. The project is scheduled to be completed later this year.
MORRIS TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING PROJECT
On August 18, 2016, the Washington County Board of Commissioners presented a check in the amount of $250,000 to Morris Township as part of the Washington County Local Share Account Program.
Local Share Account (LSA) funds will be utilized in combination with Township funds to construct a new 6,850 sf municipal building for the Township. Two thirds of the building will consist of a storage area for road crew equipment, break room and locker room for the road crew staff. The other portion of the building will be utilized as public meeting space, office space for the Township Secretary, Tax Collector, and a public restroom.
Waller Corporation of Washington was awarded the construction contract for this project on July 26 in the amount of $1,403,855. RSH Architects of Pittsburgh designed the project and is overseeing the construction of the building.
The new municipal building is a much needed addition for the Township. The current building is undersized and has no public meeting room, restrooms, or enough garage space to house all of the Township’s equipment. Construction of the building will take approximately eight months.
MCGUFFEY SENIOR CENTER EXPANSION PROJECT
On August 18, 2016, the Washington County Board of Commissioners presented a check in the amount of $63,850 to Aging Services of Washington County as part of the Washington County Local Share Account Program.
Local Share Account (LSA) funds will be utilized in combination with Aging Services funds to expand the dining area and remodel the kitchen of the McGuffey Senior Center. The dining room will be expanded into a current garage to allow for the seating of 15 to 20 additional guests. The kitchen remodel will consist of replacement of the existing cabinets, countertop and sink.
Swede Construction Corporation of Elizabeth was awarded the construction contract for this project on June 29, 2016 in the amount of $69,300. HMT and Associates of Canonsburg designed the project and will oversee the construction.
This project will provide a much needed upgrade to the McGuffey Senior Center. The completion of the expansion project will allow Aging services of Washington County to provide meals more efficiently to a larger number of seniors from Claysville and surrounding communities. Construction of the expansion project is expected to take three months.
LEMOYNE CENTER SPORTS ARENA PROJECT
On August 18, 2016, the Washington County Board of Commissioners will present a check in the amount of $150,000 to the LeMoyne Center as part of the Washington County Local Share Account Program.
The LeMoyne Center Sports Arena Project will involve recreation improvements to the existing playground area of the LeMoyne Community Center, a non-profit community center that has served the greater Washington community since 1956. The recreation improvements will include new exercise equipment stations, a new multi-purpose sports court, basketball hoops, swings, bleachers, and benches.
Jeffrey Associates, from Indianola, PA, has been awarded the first phase of the project for a total cost of $103,000. The first phase of the project will provide the improvements above with the exception of the multipurpose sports court, which will be completed in a second phase in the spring of 2017.
